At Rock House farms we are keeping our Wagyu on pasture where they forage on all Western North Carolina native grasses, legumes in addition to forest forages all of which are a ruminants ( cattle) original evolutionary diet . We do not treat our livestock with hormones or feed them growth-promoting additives. As a result, our Wagyu grow at a natural pace. At Rock House Farms our grass-fed animals live low-stress lives and are so healthy there is no reason to treat them with antibiotics or other drugs.

By raising our Wagyu on pasture this requires more knowledge and skill than sending them to a feedlot. Wagyu which are more naturally succulent and tender by their breeding and isolation over 100’s of years in Japan , create a even more intense and tasteful beef when foraged on high-quality grasses and legumes, especially in the months prior to slaughter. We practice Management Intensive Grazing which provides a nutritious and natural diet and requires healthy soil and careful pasture management so that the plants are maintained at an optimal stage of growth at all times. Our high-quality pasture and forest forages are key to high-quality Wagyu beef. We refer to ourselves as “grass farmers” rather than “ranchers.” We raise great grass; and our Wagyu do the rest.

With raising our animals on pasture we create a dramatically different cut of meat from the status quo. Virtually all the meat products that you find in the supermarket come from animals raised in confinement in large Factory Farms and feedlots. These production facilities provide a 24 hour a day supply of food at a reasonable price throughout the year. It may be cheap and easy, but there is growing concern that production farming causes an array of problems including:

• Animal abuse, stress and disease

• Environmental pollution of our land , and water

• Extreme use of hormones, antibiotics, and pharmacological drugs

• Low paid and dangerous working conditions

• Poor nutritional value

Who We Are

Rock House Farm LLC is a working farm . We sell live grass-fed Wagyu cattle, Wagyu premium beef, and forest-raised English Heritage Breed Pork. All raised naturally without inorganic inputs, petroleum based products or man made chemical additives or medicines. Rock House Farm is owned by individuals who care about how the food we eat is produced, cared for, handled and the sustainability of our farm with regards to the land it occupies and the community around it. Our aim is to supply sustainable, environmentally sound and healthy food to our family, friends, and community while taking serious the responsibility for our land, plants and animals in a holistically managed way.
